"Classic Rock & Roll Art by Tom Wilkes" on Display at Doc's Music Hall
MUNCIE, IN - GRAMMY® Award winning artist Tom Wilkes will exhibit prints from his collection September 6th through 30th at Doc's Music Hall, 215 South Walnut St. in downtown Muncie. "Classic Rock & Roll Art by Tom Wilkes" show and sale is presented by munciedowntown.com, Rosie's Custom Frames, and The Allan Hays Company, a local internet and marketing firm partnered with Wilkes to promote the sale of The Beatles' rare "Peace to Monterey" artwork later this year. Asked by Beatles' publicist, Derek Taylor, to create an ad for Wilkes' Monterey International Pop Festival program book in 1967, the four Beatles complied with a psychedelic masterpiece. The original "Peace to Monterey" pen and ink drawing is the only known visual art to which they all contributed. Hidden in his safe deposit box for nearly 40 years, it is believed to be the most valuable Beatles artifact ever offered for public sale. "Lithographs of the 'Peace to Monterey' artwork will be among the prints on display at the art show and sale," said Carey Hays, spokesperson for Wilkes. "This illustration really conveys the mood of 1967 in its message of peace and love. And now, 40 years later, that message is just as relevant." Along with the "Peace to Monterey" prints, the art show and sale features Wilkes' iconic poster from the Monterey Pop Festival, rejected album cover artwork for George Harrison and Neil Young, and select prints from his "Legends of the West" series including rare photographs of Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris and bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe. Proceeds from the sale of the artwork will benefit Project Interspeak, a not-for-profit environmental and human rights organization devoted to planetary enhancement programs, directed by Wilkes. An opening reception will be held during First Thursday Downtown, September 6 from 5 to 8 pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Tom Wilkes' silver foil psychedelic poster for the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 became an iconic symbol for the Summer of Love. Signed prints of the poster will be on exhibit at the "Classic Rock & Roll Art by Tom Wilkes" show and sale through September 30 at Doc's Music Hall in downtown Muncie, IN. HGTV Show is Seeking Homes in the Muncie Area
"If Walls Could Talk" the weekly series, Sundays on HGTV, is looking to bring the show to Muncie, IN and surrounding areas to film homes with intriguing pasts and unusual stories. Now in production on its 9th season, the series kicks off with new homeowners who make surprising historical discoveries about their homes as they explore and restore them. A lucky few will be amazed to learn that the historic artifacts they?ve discovered are worth a fortune when the ?If Walls Could Talk? appraiser drops by for a look. The producers are looking for people who have privately owned homes, and through restoration and renovation, have uncovered items (hidden in the walls, floors, attic, secret passageways, etc) that relate back to an interesting history of the house or significant homeowners. Then, by doing some research, they discover an interesting/unusual story linking the artifacts they found to a significant past homeowner or a significant history of the house itself. The show will bring in an appraiser to appraise the items for homeowners who believe the artifacts they found might be valuable. Each half-hour episode features homeowners from across the country who share their amazing discoveries. Recent stories include: * A Connecticut family moves into a neglected 1800?s Victorian only to find antiques and a mysterious locked cabinet. What they find inside tells the touching story of their home?s original owner. Then, in the attic they discover original paintings and the ?If Walls Could Talk? appraiser pays them a visit. The expert reveals their discoveries are worth thousands of dollars. * A husband and wife turn a turn of the century bank into their dream home. In the process they find the original bank vault full of safety deposit boxes that are still locked! * A Colorado couple find books, clothing and jewelry in their new home. The clues add up to the story of a best-selling author who lived in the house until she disappeared. * A New York bachelor buys a hundred year old mansion and makes a chilling discovery in the basement - his home sweet home used to be a funeral home! The series, which premiered in September of 1998, has aired more than 200 episodes ?each filmed in historic neighborhoods throughout the country. If Walls Could Talk is produced for HGTV by High Noon Entertainment in Denver, CO. Homeowners who would like to be considered for the program should contact Sara Adams at (303) 712-3125 or email at SAdams@highnoonentertainment.com
