The Muncie Gallery Guide features ten art galleries in the downtown district - more than any single arts district in Indianapolis. In addition, nearly all our pubs and eateries also exhibit local artwork. These exhibits are highlighted during downtown's First Thursday gallery walk each month. Downtown is part of an arts and cultural district, recognized in 2009 by the City of Muncie. A committee of the Muncie Arts and Culture Council is currently seeking state designation for the district. The group is also pursuing the development of a Cultural Trail, similar to the one currently being developed in Indianapolis, that ties the districts together via the Cardinal Greenway. Downtown Muncie is well represented on the Indiana Foodways Alliance I-69 Long Horizons Culinary Trail; and Muncie's glass heritage and artisans are included in the Indiana Glass Trail that stretches from Kokomo to Columbus. In 2009, Cornerstone Center for the Arts in downtown Muncie was host to the Indiana Governor's Arts Awards.
